Home Study

It is required-plain and simple. In order to be approved from the agency, we had to have a home study. What did it consist of? Meeting w/a social worker, attending a seminar (2 Saturdays for us), gather more documents & a walk through of the house. For the home study not only did we have to have criminal background checks from the local Sheriff's Dept., we also had to have our fingerprints taken for the State. The seminar was informative. What to expect, issues that the child may have, etc. Three days before our social worker was to come to our house, our cat urinated on the carpet!!!! Do you know how insanely difficult it is to get the smell out? Well, the call was made to Empire. We had the carpets ripped out and laminate flooring put in the living, dining, kitchen & 1/2 bath. The work was completed in 1 day w/4 people working.
Oh yes, how could I possibly forget... AFTER the home study is completed, a letter was sent to the local U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) so that we could be fingerprinted & have criminal background checks completed, YET AGAIN!!! Yes a total of 3 background checks.
